Speed and Conditioning Staff

Luis Velez, MA, LAT, ATC, CSCS, USAW,

After having the opportunity to start up Lenoir-Rhyne University’s first official Strength and Conditioning Program, Luis currently serves as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach, Assistant Athletic Trainer, and Adjunct Professor at Lenoir-Rhyne. Luis is a licensed and Certified Athletic Trainer, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach, and USA Weightlifting Level 1 Sports Performance Coach. He is also a Certified Sportsmetrics Instructor, which is a program to promote Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury prevention by providing instruction in the proper mechanics of the take-off and landing from a jump.

A native of Cooper City, FL, Luis’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Medicine/Athletic Training from Lenoir-Rhyne College and a Master of Arts degree in Education with and Health and Exercise Science Concentration from Furman University. During his tenure as a Strength and Conditioning Coach, Luis has served as Strength and Conditioning Coach for Men’s Soccer, Volleyball, Softball, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Lacrosse, Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Men’s and Women’s Tennis, and Men’s and Women’s Golf at Lenoir-Rhyne. Luis also teaches in the School of Health, Exercise, and Sport Science at Lenoir-Rhyne University

Luis has been published in Training & Conditioning Magazine and on WatchFIt.com, and has presented at various conferences, clinical symposia, and clinics including the North Carolina Coaches’ Clinic, and most recently the Queens University of Charlotte Sports Performance Clinic.

Locally, Luis has worked with Hickory Christian Academy Soccer, Tri-City Christian School Athletics, Newton-Conover High School Boys Soccer, St Stephens High School Boys Soccer, Freedom High School Girls Basketball, and Catawba Valley Youth Soccer Association on speed and conditioning.
